About Wyatt

As a kid, I grew up north of San Francisco in the small coastal town called Mendocino. My family were always outdoors whether it be backpacking, diving, or surfing. It wasn't until I was about eight years old that I really developed an affinity for the cold northern California water. From that point on surfing became my main objective which is where my other interests stemmed from.

After graduating Mendocino High School in 2010 I moved on to the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) where I graduated with a bachelor of science in environmental studies and minor in geology. During my time in Santa Barbara I continued pursuing my other interests of music, photography, and surfing.

Upon graduating I took a seasonal job with Fish and Wildlife and Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission gathering information on commercial salmon. After my contract ended, I saved enough to buy tickets to get me to a destination to either work and/or live frugally. During that time I lived in Kauai, Central America, and New Zealand.

It wasn't until I made it to New Zealand where I volunteered with a conservation ranger to help with pest control and restoration projects that I realized I wanted to focus my time on studying the world around me. Upon moving back to California I found work as an environmental scientist where I continued my education in GIS, Army Corp of Engineer wetland delineations, vegetation rapid assessment and relevé methods, Carex identification, as well as training with several different species of wildlife.

With this blog, I hope to continue my creative side of writing and photography using it to understand the biology wherever I am as well as include a little bit of my lifestyle. I hope you find as much enjoyment out of this blog as I do.

Cheers,
Wyatt
